another day of running around...

went to work today anyway since i had forgotten i decided not to work thursdays, but told some people i would be available. turns out, no one needed anything anyway. lol. there was a whole bunch of things pauline and i had to take care of today; i had to make a list! on monday, we're meeting with Dima about the DD webpage/website. we haven't looked at that project since the end of august. i'm thinking about constructing a basic website for the dual degree program, but my skills in that area aren't that great.

i sat in the lounge on the 13th floor of wwh during my lunch break. it's a lovely space. there's even a piano up there. i was up there once last summer when someone was playing a lovely piece on it. i wish i knew what it was called...

i attended a grad student workshop on how to find and utilize primary resources. it was a helpful review of the basics of research, though it was definitely more geared towards the humanities students than a science student like me. but it was interesting to hear about how people utilize the archives collections at nyu.

met with tamar about my cims account. now i can log into a unix machine and use the labs at courant. i even get another email account. what in the world am i going to do with that one?? lol i spent a good half hour figuring out how to make it all work -- most importantly, change the generic password! the unix machine i was logged into used GNOME, which looks like the old mac interfaces and pretty easy to figure out.

cookies@coles! was pretty nice. the science librarians held a small reception for students and served us cookies and coffee/tea. they put each individual cookie in a custom made bag with sticker labels of each science librarian. meg and i spent part of it talking about expectations of the mentoring program and the learning contract. it needs to be done by october 1, but i need to write a 3-5 page essay first about what i want to get out of the program... something to think about for the next few days...

tomorrow, i'm attending the gsas orientation sooooo gotta get up early again. i'm never going to be able to sleep in again! ><
