a really tiring day

so today, i promised allan i would play handball with him so i came out to manhattan. my dad misunderstood where i wanted to be dropped off so i ended up walking up to 36th street and 2nd ave from chinatown cuz i missed the nyu bus. i stopped by allan's apt on my way up to drop off my books and get out of all the layers i was in. i thought it would be a bit colder in the morning, but since i had to trek my way up manhattan, i was really working up a sweat.

when we got to the courts, there were a couple of people playing tennis. i explained the basics and then more as we went along. i think allan was totally hustling me cuz after a few serves, he was already kicking my ass. he claims it was from his experience with tennis since the games are very similar. maybe, i believe that... maybe.

then we ordered take out from this chinese restaurant that's supposed to be really good. it was. they gave me so much, i couldnt finish, though it didn't look like a lot because the box was so big. i got egg drop soup to go with it. good stuff. then we just kind of hung out for a couple of hours talking about movies and music, before heading out to campus to meet rachel for analysis hw.

i was soo dead tired by the time we got there. i was ready for a nap. forcing myself awake to think about analysis is tough! i totally did not have the energy for it. somehow we managed to do most of it.

and now i'm off to bed...

thursday

Aquarius Horoscope for October 22, 2009

Everything must happen on its own time, so don't rush things; take advantage of opportunities, but don't push your agenda too strongly. The action you're about to take should be considered seriously. Don't move ahead just to move ahead. It's okay to stand still and reflect, especially in romantic situations. Waiting for the right moment to act will teach you patience and help you appreciate forward momentum even more.

shadowed evelyn today from noon to 2pm. it was nonstop busy busy! in the last hour, she got 3 reference questions back to back. everyone seems to be writing papers around this time of year. for one student, she actually went through with the patron opening a refworks account. in this case, i agree it would be much easier for the patron to have an account. they did a lot of searching in archives, books, and journals and pushed all the citations to refworks. each question was unique and utilized different databases and search methods. other than reference questions, we got some directional ones as well. we got at least 2 asking for the rest room. i got one for where are the computer labs (LL1). evelyn didn't hand out any bookmarks to direct patrons with call numbers.

when there was down time in the first hour, we talked about touring NYAM (I'm going to email someone tomorrow bout it). and we did some quick searching for simpson's paradox, cuz i told her that's what i'm interested in reading more about. she found a book i hadn't come across in my searches so i have to look into that one...

overall, shadowing was fun. i met michael stoller (like major big name - he's teaching collection development, which i'm planning to take next fall). i learned a lot about the kind of resources i'm missing. this makes me look forward to the reference class and have high expectations for it.

went to play hb for a bit with david. i actually feel like i've improved a lot since the beginning of summer. i still need to work on building up power in all my hits. more of my returns from the back are actually making it to the wall! my brother and his friends showed up after a while and they played for a bit. i ordered a pair of gloves with david, tho i dont anticipate using them much cuz i like the feel of the ball. gloves pad the hand too much, i think. well, we'll see...

funtimes

the FIOS guy came to my house today and installed new internet! woot, no more disconnects and disruptions! would've been more useful when i was still playing WoW, but o well...

went to join david and his hb group at the park. turns out a lot of ppl were busy and only sze came out to play. so we spent like an hour playing triangles, losing track of the score along the way. david was kicking both our asses anyway. this is sze's second time? and he's not bad at all. quicker learner than me! david louie came by the park and we turned it into a doubles game. we ended up playing two. first game was me and david l vs sze and david. we won =D second game was me and david vs sze and david l. they won. both games were really close. i forget the score of the first one, but the second was 20-21.

had to go to the comprehensive exam workshop at 7 so i left when sze left. he walked me to the nyu bus, which is right in front of the hospital, where he lives (there's a dorm on the right side of the building). i thought it was sweet he made sure i got on the bus and all. he's an interesting guy - graduated from yale, from hawaii, travels, etc.

workshop was a killer. i was learning new concepts rather than reviewing what i should know for this exam! arghhhhhhhh... i am seriously thinking of writing a thesis instead. this test is ridiculous. my mind is not made to memorize these things and then forget them straightaway. i would rather apply what i learned into something.

so i am sooo sore right now. everything on my right side aches. my hand is still really stiff (i could barely write at the workshop). my shoulders ache. my legs hurt from all the running around. BUT it was an awesome workout. i'm going to try to go again next week if the weather is still nice. it is like the middle of october...

life so far...

so i spent an agonizing two weeks, trying to figure out what to write for my first blog post. i still haven't thought of anything, but people were poking fun at my inability to come up with something. so here i am, writing this post about nothing in particular. i suppose i can write about what's happened since college ended...

my dad's been unemployed since before graduation, so i've been pulled into manual labor for a bunch of various home improvement projects. my family is a bunch of hoarders, all collecting and no dumping. i'm pretty guilty of that myself, but i'm working on it! been throwing out a lot of old papers (stuff from first grade even! lol). we bought another bookcase and filled it up fairly quickly. never can have enough books...

since the start of july, i started working for pauline rothstein, the program administrator for the dual degree program. she's in chicago at the moment for ALA, so i've been left to my own devices for the past week. there's a lot of paper despite what the tiny file cabinet looks like, and i went through all the files to create a nice excel database. hopefully i wont have to go back in there for a while yet.

every weekend since mid-june, i've gone out to the park to play handball. one of my goals is to get really good at the game. it's been about 6 years since i last played, so i was fairly rusty when i started. i think i've improved a lot and anyone who's up for a game, hit me up! i'm free most afternoons and weekends.

alright, i think that's all for now; don't want to bore you any more than i have to =D
