i met with prof tabak early this morning to discuss thesis options. he suggested i get in touch with yann lecun about machine learning. apparently, prof tabak has 4 phD students and 3 master's already. he's reluctant to take me on too. so i'm all set up with a meeting for prof lecun on june 22! between him and tabak, i figured out what courses to take in the fall: scientific computing and machine learning.
i've been looking for stuff to do in NOLA. the creole tomato festival is happening this weekend. that should be interesting. i also want to dine in cafe du mont (because ruth said she really wants to go there). and of course, everyone has been telling me to get gumbo. so i will!
so right now, i have to pack. it's gonna be a long night...
i talked with lecun about the same thesis project probably. its applying filters to audio input to identify note, pitch, source, etc. lots of programming in his own computer language. just to let you know.
